1973 ROVER P6 3500 ESTATE

This is a 1973 Rover P6 3500 S Estoura estate, which probably requires a little explanation. As there was no factory-built P6 estate, Battersea coachbuilder FLM Panelcraft offered handsome bespoke estate conversions via H R Owen dealerships from 1969 onwards, with around 200 built overall. Of those, only eight were based on manual transmission 3500 S models, as here. This example was registered during September 1973 and is now showing 35,723 miles on its odometer. The Rover's last MoT expired in January 2022 after having been tested the previous year at 33,591 miles. 

The P6 was comprehensively restored from 2016 to 2020, after having been standing for over 20 years. There is a list of all work done in the history folder, but it includes the drivetrain removed for substantial welding underneath to be carried out, doors, front and rear wings, and tailgate repaired, the body stripped to bare metal and repainted in Land Rover Loire Blue Metallic, braking system renewed, front suspension overhauled and original transmission replaced with five-speed LT77 gearbox and new clutch. The total restoration costs exceeded £35,000. The result is an excellent example of a very rare car. 

Paperwork accompanying the Rover includes the present V5C and copies of past ones, owner's manual, correspondence relating to the restoration and technical information on the P6 model. There's also a workshop manual for the Rover plus a spare set of keys.
