Citroen has been responsible for more than its fair share of iconic classics, with one of the best‑loved ‑ and definitely the longest‑lived ‑ being the 2CV. The Charleston was introduced in October 1980 as a one season special edition, but did so well in the marketplace that it became a regular (and range‑topping) model in July 1981, with the changes including a different carburettor to achieve 29bhp, a top speed of 71 mph, inboard front disc brakes and an Art Deco‑ish two‑tone colour scheme.

This 1987 maroon and black Charleston has had three registered keepers in total, with the last one keeping it for 10 years. It was a regular show‑goer including, reputedly, being driven to Scotland for one rally ‑ it lived in Truro in Cornwall at the time.

According to the vendor, the car had a galvanised chassis when new wings were fitted, with a new hood and correct Citroen seat covers added more recently (there's a 2019 bill for the hood). The paperwork file includes the V5 plus a Haynes manual decorated with MoT reminder stickers. The current MoT is until July 2022, while the past MoTs stretch back to 1998 and 38,430 miles. These suggest the current recorded mileage of 71,745 is genuine. There's a large stack of bills stretching back to 2001, including a 6000‑mile service during April 2021 at 71,582 miles. A new starter motor was fitted in 2020, along with a new alternator during 2018.

The car is in generally good order, albeit with some fading and scratching to the paintwork and areas that could be improved, including a few spots of corrosion. The interior is well‑preserved.
