As classic hot hatches go, the Peugeot 205 GTI is one of the most lauded, held in the same sort of regard as its performance‑orientated Teutonic rival, the Volkswagen Golf GTI. This 1989 1.9 model packs even more punch however.

The car was modified between 2014 and 2016 with a Peugeot 306 16‑valve engine and a custom‑built five‑speed gearbox. The further upgrades, as listed by the vendor, included a custom manifold and exhaust system, lightened billet flywheel and upgraded clutch, oil cooler, Nissans radiator, Gaz adjustable coil‑over suspension, upgraded discs and callipers including Goodridge braided hoses, six‑point OMP roll cage, polycarbonate rear quarter windows, Sparco seats and harnesses, strut brace, and Michelin Pilot Sport tyres. So while it still looks pretty standard from the outside ‑ and in very good condition ‑ there's quite a lot going on inside and under the skin. Most of the work was carried out by Peugeot specialists.

The vendor reports that 'with 800kg of kerb weight and around 175bhp, this car is very responsive, agile and sounds great too'. He describes it as 'built for fast road use or track‑ready'. Standard 1.9 GTIs came with 126bhp, incidentally.

Current mileage is recorded as 158,684 and the MoT expires at the end of May 2022. The paperwork folder includes the V5, a full list of the modifications done, and some past MoTs (and the Irish equivalents, as this car came over from Ireland during 2015). There's a collection of British and Irish tax discs, and various bills dating back to when the car was modified. The last recorded service was in July 2020 at 158,494 miles, when other jobs such as the replacement of exhaust mountings, brake fluid and the auxiliary belt were carried out.
