Lot Number: 486
Estimate: £30,000 - 35,000
  • V5 Present
  • MoT Exempt
  • Chassis number: 5T09A554701
With production of the Ford Mustang only getting underway in March 1964, this example ‑ built in April 1965 ‑ is a very early Fastback. Most of its life has been spent in the country of its birth, where it was restored to GT specification with GT lights, rear valance, exhaust etc. It was imported from California to the UK in 2016.

The engine was upgraded to a rebuilt 302ci (4942cc) V8, with further additions of a limited slip differential, new Autowire wiring harness, disc brakes and power steering. The Burgundy Metallic colour is the original shade, albeit a repaint. A rare set of Shelby aluminium road wheels are on the car. Inside, the interior is in as original condition, albeit with a period‑looking digital stereo, new carpets and dash pad. The gearbox was rebuilt at the end of 2021 (at a cost of almost £1000).

The paperwork folder includes a reproduction of a 1965 owner's manual, invoices for servicing and other work while in the UK, with a tune-up and service during November 2021. The V5C is also present, as is a copy of the US California title and import work. Two MoT certificates date 2016 and 2017; the car's age mean it is now exempt from testing. The odometer reading is 25,007 miles and two former registered UK keepers are recorded on the V5C.
