The Steadman TS100 is a hand‑built, aluminium‑bodied homage to the pre‑war SS100 Jaguar. Only 28 examples were factory‑built in the late‑1980s by Ottercraft Ltd in Hayle, Cornwall, using donor Jaguar and Daimler vehicles. In the case of this one, the basis was a Daimler Sovereign 4.2 registered in August 1973, thus meaning that, despite its 1930s' looks, it has power steering, front disc brakes and a powerful 245bhp XK six‑cylinder engine. Although the Steadman was put together in the 1980s, it is tax‑ and MoT‑exempt due to the age of its donor vehicle. That said, there is a current MoT valid until March 2022.

The mileage on this car is recorded as just 9166 miles, which is largely verified by previous MoTs. The vendor believes it was one of the demonstrator cars used by the manufacturer, with its related 'STM 995' numberplate backing this up.

The car comes with a large history file, including two spare keys, logbook, current and old MoTs, and a Jaguar/Daimler Haynes workshop manual. There's also the TS100 owner's handbook, various sales brochures, assorted maintenance and service receipts and photographs and various laminated show information window signs. The V5C is with the car, noting 15 former registered keepers, as are MoT certificates from 2021, 2020, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008 and 2007.

The vendor is a doctor who has used the car to commute to work, and has thus spent time improving the braking, handling and ride comfort so it's more usable in modern traffic. He tells us that the engine has recently been overhauled and serviced with new plugs, fuel and breather pipes, battery and fan belt. Uprated knock-on wheels have been added, with new Toyo tyres and inner tubes. Heavy duty XJ6 springs have been installed all around and the brakes have been serviced, plus there are new wipers. Included with the car is a new bottle jack and wheel-change kit.

Inside the car, there's a smaller-than-standard three-spoke walnut-finished steering wheel and gearknob. Westfield rubber floormats are also fitted. The car has its full weather gear and custom-made tonneau cover.

With genuine SS100 Jaguars now running into the hundreds of thousands, these evocations are seen as a more reasonably-priced way of combining much of the same pre-war spirit and style with the convenience of a more modern machine.
