In 1987, the Giorgetto Giugiaro‑designed Lotus Esprit was revamped by the notable British designer Peter Stevens. Although the wedge‑shaped lines remained largely similar, the Stevens redesign was more rounded than his Italian counterpart's 'folded paper' shape.
This early Calypso Red normally‑aspirated example was registered in October 1988. Since then, it's had nine previous registered keepers according to the V5C. 86,215 miles are recorded on the odometer and the MoT is valid until 1988. It was originally supplied by Lotus main agent Spink of Bournemouth, and has a fully‑supporting service history from new to date. This includes 16 service entries with supporting service invoices, the original supplying dealer handbook pack and service book, and Lotus sales brochure. There are 26 previous MoT certificates, with the first from when the car was just three years old.
Much of the service work has been carried out by Lotus main dealers or specialists. Recent work includes a gearbox overhaul, replacement cambelt and major service. The paperwork file is very large, and shows £19,050 spent since 2017 (during which the car has covered 800 miles).
The Esprit is in very good condition throughout, with unmarked alloy wheels. A set of new official wheel centre caps are included, as the originals now have some fading. P600 Pirelli tyres. Inside, the beige leather is excellent, with no dampness apparent. The removeable glass roof panel has its original storage bag in the boot.
