In 1996, Subaru created the Outback as a variant of its Legacy estate, albeit with heightened suspension so it could compete in the growing sport‑utility vehicle (SUV) market. It proved to be a big sales success for the Japanese manufacturer, so much so that the Outback line became a model in its own right in 2000.

This two‑tone Vintage Green and grey car with 2457cc engine however, registered in June 1998, dates from the days when the Outback was still badged as a version of the Legacy. The odometer shows a mileage of just 12,052, which can be verified from the history file. The current MoT runs to December 2022, and the car has had two owners from new, including the vendor.

The history folder includes the current MoT, the owner's manual, AA handbook, Subaru assistance booklet and service book, which is stamped up to 11,505 miles in October 2016. The vehicle seems to have spent some time off the road during 2020 and 2021 according to its online MoT history. There's also a Subaru Vintage Green touch-up pen and the locking wheelnut key. Some paintwork looks to have been carried out to the bottom half of the car during the course of its life.
