While this February 1979‑registered Volkswagen Transporter ‑ one of the last of the European‑built T2 'Bay Window' models ‑ started life as a delivery panel van, it has subsequently been converted into a camper van. The vendor has owned it for 11 years.

The van features a rock and roll three‑quarter bed, twin‑hob and grille, small sink and storage, with the 'buddy seat' capable of taking a Thetford toilet. The VW was restored around three to four years ago, with a complete respray in its original blue, with stonechip lower edging and Waxoyling underneath. The original steel wheels are stove‑enamelled and fitted with five EU truck tyres.

The engine was rebuilt to 1641cc 'big bore' capacity with reground crank with all new shells, bearings, twin-choke twin-Weber carburettors, extractor stainless exhaust. The engine has only covered approximately 2000 miles since its rebuild. Inside, the van now sports a rev counter, oil, engine temperature and battery gauges. Although as an historic vehicle, there is no need for the VW to have an annual MoT test, this one has a ticket valid until October. The indicated mileage on the odometer is 77,628 miles.

The paperwork file includes the V5C, old MoTs, tax discs and a large stack of bills dating back to the start of the 21st century. There's also some photos of the engine rebuild and body restoration in progress. A spare ignition key also comes with the vehicle.
