1981 VW Passat 1.9 GLS5
a 1981 VW Passat 1.9 GLS5

Lot Number: 692
Result inc Premium: £4,320
  • V5 Present
Registered in November 1981, this second generation (B2) Passat hatchback is a top‑of‑the‑range GLS variant with five‑cylinder 1.9‑litre engine and five‑speed manual gearbox. It's something of a timewarp vehicle, being finished in a very of‑its‑era colour scheme of bronze with brown velour interior and looks to be all original (even down to supplying dealer‑branded numperplates and rear window sticker), with just 58,180 miles indicated on its odometer. Two keepers are recorded from new, with the second having owned the car since it was about two years old.

The paperwork file includes the current V5C plus some previous ones, and a selection of most MoT certificates from 1987 to 2005 which seem to confirm the low mileage. Over the last quarter of a century, under 10,000 miles have been covered. There's also a large selection of tax discs from 1984 through to 2005; this seeming to be the last year that the VW was on the road. Invoices and other documents relating to the sale of the Passat as a 13,407‑mile used car in 1983 ‑ priced £5880 including a £900 allowance on a 1972 Austin Maxi 1500 ‑ are also included, as is a 1983 sales brochure.
