This is a Mercedes‑Benz R107 SL with a difference. While it started life in 1974 as a 350SL, it was fitted with an OM617 3.0‑litre five‑cylinder diesel engine and five‑speed manual transmission from a contemporary W123 saloon some years ago, with the conversion being carried out by Ken Dalton of 'Kensbenz' fame. These motors are regarded as among the most reliable ever constructed, with over 600,000 miles between rebuilds quite common. The odometer reads 136,300 miles on this car, although that is not warranted and, presumably, includes the days when it had its original petrol engine. Recent work undertaken includes a re‑cored radiator, replacement rear brake calipers and discs, and new front subframe mountings and anti‑roll bar bushes. The vendor describes the car as 'generally presentable, although it could be improved. It also has a small dent to the nearside rear wing', He also reports the interior as 'pretty good, but has some wear to the driver's door card' while the soft‑top is 'fully‑functional, however, as it is original to the car, it is in need of refurbishment'. The SL will come with its existing numberplate.
