When Ford introduced the high performance 150bhp MkV version of the Ford Escort RS2000 in 1991, it was in front‑wheel drive form and quite a mainstream model. However, the variant of it that came along in 1993 was altogether much rarer. The RS2000 4x4 added four‑wheel drive to the spec and reputedly only 500 were made, in MkVb and MkVI body styles, up until June 1996. It's believed that, of those, only 350 made it to the road, with the rest being allocated for competition use. The DVLA's records show that, of the cars that remain, 35 are SORN and two are licensed for road use.

This example was put into dry storage during 2013, shortly after it had new brake discs, calipers and pads fitted. It emerged from storage in January this year and was put on a rotisserie for welding to be done to its underneath. A new battery tray was also installed.

Other work involved new bottom arms and shock absorbers along with new drop links and track rod ends. The rear suspension also had new poly bushes fitted. New brake pipes were also installed where required, as was a starter motor, new windscreen and rubber, battery, Sachs clutch plate and four new tyres.

The history folder includes the V5C showing the car was registered in February 1996 (thus making it from towards the end of manufacture), as well as images of it on the rotisserie while work was being done on it. There are a handful of older bills from 2008 for sundry parts as well as MoT certificates from 2013, 2008, 2005 and 2004 ‑ when the mileage was shown as 71,275. These suggest that the 84,435 miles shown on the odometer is genuine. There is no current MoT. The owner's handbook is also in the file.
