This Caterham Super Sprint has had 3 owners in its lifetime, and comes with an advisory-free MoT to 27th January 2027. It's powered by a 1.7-litre Ford Crossflow engine with a Type-9 gearbox, and the odometer is reading 1348 miles.
The car comes with a box containing a large and well-presented collection of maintenance invoices, workshop manuals, club magazine excerpts and high-quality photographs telling the story of its restoration. The current V5C is also present, although with a spare set of keys.
The vendor has provided us with the following:
"The first owner built the car to race in the Caterham Graduates Championship. He raced it for some 500 miles then put it into storage in 2005. The racing seal on the head is still in place. The second owner bought the car as a project, intending to use it for hill climbing. This never happened, although he did carry out various odd jobs on the chassis.
"I then bought the ‘project’ from PT Sports Cars in 2023, and put it back together over a couple of winters. I had to get the DVLA to issue a new VIN number and also put the car through an IVA. It was re-registered on 1st February 2025. Including the cost of the original ‘project’, well in excess of £20k has been spent on the rebuild (excluding my time).
"As far as I can ascertain, the Ford Crossflow engine has been bored out to 1691cc. The block is the sought-after Ford South Africa ”AX" block which has thicker walls. It has a high-lift cam, large valves, and the head as been gas-flowed. The gearbox is a Ford Type 9 five-speed XR4i box. The rear axle is a strengthened live axle from the Morris Ital. Basically the car has been built to Caterham “Super Spring” specification, which also includes the ‘correct’ low sump. The carburettors are a pair of reconditioned Weber DCOE 40s which breathe through short trumpets and make a wonderful induction noise. The chassis bears the serial number of AM 95 1173UC, this being a chassis ordered by Caterham from Arch Motors for the Caterham Academy series of races. The car gets to 65mph in second gear at just over 6000rpm and feels as though it would reach 90mph in 3rd without too much trouble. Over the past year I have drive in some 1300 miles without issue.
In essence I have rebuilt the car with a 'classic' look, and it always draws attention when out for a drive."
