1960 AUSTIN HEALEY FROGEYE SPRITE

948cc, manual. This Austin-Healey ‘Frogeye’ Sprite received a bare-metal rebuild around 2006, then received very little use until the vendor purchased it in 2024 and gave it a thorough recommissioning – included fitment of electronic ignition and an electric fuel pump. Today the car is presented in superb overall condition, with a very tidy interior to match its maroon paintwork.

The car is supplied with a collection of MoT certificates going back to 1989 and a good stack of invoices for parts and maintenance. These cover the recent recommissioning, the earlier restoration, and various maintenance items going back to 1993. An inventory of the restoration records that the restoration cost over £8k in 2026, and included an engine rebuild followed by calibration on a rolling road. Today the odometer shows 46,425 miles. 

Under the vendor’s tenure, in the last couple of years it has received a long list of recommissioning works, as follows:

• New copper fuel pipe fitted to run continuously from tank to fuel pump.
• Fuel tanks to supply pump connection remade.
• New top and bottom hoses fitted, and cooling system refilled with antifreeze.
• Rev counter rebuilt and recalibrated by Speedograph Richfield.
• Master cylinder and clutch cylinders rebuilt.
• Thermostat housing cleaned and new thermostat fitted.
• Both carbs rebuilt with a genuine SU service kit, & new heat shield.
• Boot floor cleaned of surface rust, treated, and painted.
• Boot sound-deadening and carpet fitted.
• Hood metalwork repainted.
• New indicator switch.

• New throttle cable.
• Handbrake cable and mounting plate replaced.
• New rear light lenses.
• Fuel filter fitted.
• Complete engine service, including spark plugs.
• New carpets and sound-deadening.
• Cockpit trim panels remade.

• New silicon plugs, HT leads, coil & electronic ignition
• New tachometer gearbox
• New fuel non-return valve
• New brake shoes and wheel cylinders all round
