1989 FORD TRANSIT COUNTY 4X4

A handful of companies offered 4×4 conversions for Ford's Transit, the most popular of which was provided by County Tractors of Knighton in Powys. It converted vans on behalf of Ford Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) as a factory option. This 2.0-litre Pinto-engined County long wheelbase example was registered in September 1989 and is showing 80,714 miles on its odometer. It has had four registered keepers and a current MoT through to September 2023 and is described as running well with no issues, with a new cambelt and water pump in the last 12 months and a restoration only recently completed, during which the vendor tried to retain as much originality as possible and use new old stock Ford parts where he could. Under 50 miles have been completed since its last MoT. 

Known as Moose, the van was purchased by John Ryan Props and Models in 1989 and used all over Europe and Africa as part of the firm's business making and repairing props and models for the TV and film industry. When the vendor bought it five years ago, he was told that the rocks in the ashtray - which are still there - were from the Berlin Wall, while when the van was in Tunisia, it had C3PO from Star Wars in the back undergoing repairs. 

Documentation with the Transit includes the V5C, earlier V5, MoT certificates from 1993 onwards, the original bill of sale (for £16,200), information brochure and the book pack. This includes the owner's handbook, dealer directory, radio instructions, keycode and service book, albeit with entries only up 14,362 miles in January 1993.
