Vanden Plas - originally a branch of Belgian Carrossierie Vanden Plas - initially concentrated on lightweight open sporting bodies for various Bentleys. However, after Rolls-Royce took over Bentley in 1931, Vanden Plas moved into building on some Rolls-Royce chassis as well. This four-door ‘Silent Travel’ lightweight saloon was one of 16 VP bodies using the 20/25 chassis, featuring cutaway wings and free-floating running boards. It was constructed in 1933 and used in Britain, but looks to have some point gone to the United States before returning to the UK and being reregistered here in November 2008. Since then it has had two registered keepers. In summer 2009, it was noted as having just been cosmetically refreshed, with new paintwork, carpets, refinished woodwork etc. The indicated mileage is 30,759 miles and the last MoT expired in July 2012, after testing at 29,967 miles. Of course, as an historic vehicle, the Rolls-Royce is now MoT-exempt.

Documentation accompanying the Rolls-Royce includes information on this specific model, copy of original build data, control guide, MoT certificates, information on the original owner (J W Bothwell, descended from King James V of Scotland), DVLA records, Kentucky registration documents, some invoices and a photocopy of the 20/25HP owner's handbook.
