1973 NSU RO 80
LOT 679
The NSU Ro 80 was a ground-breaking car when launched in 1967, with a sleek, aerodynamic design, twin 995cc Wankel rotary engine powering the front wheels, and semi-automatic transmission with vacuum-operated pedal-less clutch system. Production ceased in 1977. Now rare, this example has had five registered owners from new and has spent the last twelve to thirteen years in storage. It is currently showing 47,230 miles on its odometer and when it was last MoT'd in 2008, it recorded 46,412 miles, although as an historic vehicle no longer requires annual testing. This example was previously owned by a member of the NSU Club, with the vendor telling us that the engine has been rebuilt and the interior re-trimmed. Our short test drive with the vehicle confirmed that it drives well and the innovative vacuum gear change system works fine. The car presents well, with a very tidy interior, but there are some areas on the body that would benefit from cosmetic improvement. The history folder includes the current and past V5Cs, various invoices from 2020 and 2021 for the engine and upholstery work, a 2019 bill of sale, and assorted club literature plus a buyer's guide.
