This artwork by William Oxer has come from a small private collection. It is oil on canvas, water based with acrylic pencil, Venetian ground impasto medium, ink and gouache, tinted wash over gesso primed canvas. Framed to the Guild of Framers museum standard. It measures 54" (137cm) wide x 39" (99cm) deep. A most impressive painting, that was one of a series of three large-scale paintings with the same muse and room setting, was commissioned by The Arthur Conan Doyle Estate for “The Art of Sherlock Holmes”, a book published worldwide.
