This British Racing Green MGB Roadster has been the subject of a bare metal rebuild, with both sills replaced including new castle rails. Both floorpans, the gearbox crossmember, jacking points and rebound mounts were also renewed along with both left-hand side wings. New replacement panel sections were welded in to replace both right-hand side lower rusty sections. The original aluminium bonnet was replaced with a new steel one. After soda-blasting, the bodyshell and all painted parts were etch-primed and a full respray in British Racing Green undertaken, plus a thorough spray application of stonechip underseal. The engine has been converted to to unleaded and has a fitted oil cooler and electronic ignition. The gearbox was replaced with a warranted, fully-overhauled all-synchromesh overdrive gearbox complete with new gearbox mounting. This meant the speedometer was rebuilt but the existing odometer mileage was left unaltered. The exhaust system was renewed along with the rear axle oil seals, universal joints on the propshaft, and two rear shock absorbers. The brake and clutch master cylinders were overhauled and the slave cylinders for the clutch and both rear brakes replaced. The front calipers were overhauled including new pistons. All rear brake linings and front pads were replaced.
Inside, a bespoke tailored full set of sound insulation was fitted, along with a new MGB carpet set including the boot and spare wheel cover. The windows were refitted complete with new rubber seals and the interior door panels insulated with vibration damping rubber sheets. Waxoyl was applied inside the door panels. A full set of interior trim was added, including all-new panels, and the original leather seats refitted. New twin horns, light units and rims were fitted, as was a new vinyl with a zip-out rear window. The wire wheels were refurbished and powder-coated, and then shod in new Falken 165/14 asymmetric radial tyres.
The MGB is running and driving. It was registered in April 1969 and now shows 85,702 miles on its odometer. Its last MoT expired in May 2012 after being tested at an indicated 81,385 miles. However, as an historic vehicle, the MG no longer requires annual testing. Paperwork includes the V5C, a large stack of invoices and MoT certificates from 1986 to 2011.
