This Thames 400E 15cwt has been thoroughly restored and converted into a replica of a Team Lotus racing car transport from c.1958, with a 2k respray in resprayed in Goodwood Green.

This work was carried out in 2018-19, and the vendor has provided a meticulous description. Highlights included restoring the cab, restoring & lengthening the chassis, and fitting a 6-cylinder Mk3 Zephyr engine, mated to a 4-speed gearbox with Laycock J-type overdrive on 3rd & 4th. All new steering linkages were fitted, together with a new laminated windscreen and a new rear body. In the vendor's words, “The vehicle has been assembled with all New Old Stock OE or Ford parts, including front & rear shocks and springs, all steering and suspension bushes, joints and relay assemblies. All brake cylinders, shoes, drums and cables are also NOS.” Work included converting the electrics to negative earth, installing an electric winch, and wiring the cab for a CD/radio with DIN plug in the glove box and a 12v socket under the dash.

The V5C records the current engine (2553cc) and indicates only 2 keepers prior to the vendor, who acquired the vehicle in 2001. First registration was on 11th July 1961. It is supplied with original Ford repair manual, parts list and handbook, and a spare set of keys.

The vendor advises that the NOS brake shoes are recent items and still require bedding in. (They reportedly only squeak on first use.)
