1898cc, manual. This lovely green MGB is an early narrow-tunnel, pull-handle example which was thoughtfully prepared for competition use in the late 1990s by Brown and Gammons, at great expense. Until this summer it had been owned by its original owner for 45 years, and today the V5C records only 1 former keeper. Its modifications include an aluminium cylinder head, double Lucas fuel pump, oil cooler, Kenlowe electric fan and spin-on oil filter, while the occupants benefit from a pair of comfortable Ridgard seats with 4-point harnesses, Safety Devices roll cage and a leather MotoLita steering wheel. The engine drives a close-ratio gearbox with straight-cut gears, and an overdrive which is engaged by a switch on the gear lever. The bonnet is aluminium and the detachable hardtop canopy is GRP.
The car has had little use lately but the vendor reports that it “runs and drives well”. The history file is excellent, containing a large stack of receipts going back to the 1980s, and many receipts from Brown and Gammons showing its build in the late 1990s. Recent maintenance has included new tyres, starter motor, battery and other parts. Its latest MoT (now optional) was passed with no advisories in 2017. Spare keys are also present, together with the current V5C.
This promises to be an extremely enjoyable and affordable way into classic motorsport, ideal for navigation rallies or other competitive events.
