1997cc petrol, manual. This Land Rover Series I is an uncommon 109in pick-up, purchased by the vendor in 2007 and affectionately known as Melvyn. The overall condition is smart and a high degree of originality has been retained, with equipment including front freewheeling hubs, a tow bar and a Fairey overdrive.

Melvyn was named in honour of his restorer, Melvyn Coils, from whose estate he was purchased. The vendor has looked after him well and kept him in a barn ever since. We're told: "Melvyn had been restored in 2006, stripped back to the chassis and completely rebuilt. I have used him in my business, exhibited him, and have had lots of fun at Series I events, etc. He has been loved and meticulously maintained, recently receiving a new master cylinder, carburetor overhaul and a new battery."

The restoration is documented in a collection of photographs in the history file, accompanied by a comprehensive collection of receipts from throughout the vendor’s tenure. A Heritage Certificate confirms that this Land Rover began life as a grey 109in Series I, built in February 1958 and despatched to a dealer in Leeds, finished in Dove Grey. That original shade can be seen on the door bottoms and tailgate, while the rest of the body is Battleship Grey, a near match. There is also an excellent collection of MoT certificates covering 1981 to its latest test, passed without advisories in 2022, and three books: a original Series I workshop manual, parts catalogue and restoration guide.

The odometer shows 7336 miles, but the original speedometer is included, showing 44k miles, and this figure is supported by the MoT record.

The registration number is non-transferable (the original number having been sold to pay for the restoration).
