1948 AUSTIN A40 DEVON COUNTRYMAN
While it's believed that this Austin A40 Devon Countryman - the rare estate variant of the model - is a 1948 model, it could be a 1949 car as the GPZ Countryman was only launched in September of 1948. Unfortunately, as the vehicle has 'fallen off' the DVLA's system, there is no V5C or log book, which will need to be applied for when the vehicle is returned to the roads. The Austin is an unfinished restoration project bought in 1987. We're told that it has a new core in the radiator, and the head gasket was replaced in 1987 - since when the vehicle has only covered five miles. New front tyres and tubes are fitted, and the front brakes have been relined and the wheel cylinders replaced, but the vendor considers that the seals will need replacing again. Among the jobs still required are finishing of the roof and tackling the rust on the wings. Among the paperwork are a selection of club County Counsel magazines from the late 1980s through to the early 1990s, a 1987 invoice for the purchase of the estate, two owner's handbooks plus a supplement, a Cassell book of the Austin A40 Devon and a workshop manual. There's also the original sun visor for the car which has a plate with chassis and engine numbers on it, although the current engine looks to be a Goldseal' unit fitted at an unknown date. The sun visors now fitted on the car came from a saloon and were bought at an autojumble.
