1966 TRIUMPH 2000 MKI. MK2 DEVELOPMENT CAR
According to the vendor, this Triumph 2000 MkI formed part of the MkII development programme, after being picked at random from the production line in 1966 and modified to show what the MkII - which was launched in October 1969 - could look like. The car was initially registered in November 1966 to the Standard Triumph Motor Company and retained by it until sold in February 1970. It was painted Damson Red (unavailable at the time) and other changes made including the unique dashboard, MkII style leather trim and gearstick-operated overdrive.
The registered keeper, who has owned it since 1998, painted the car back into its original factory colour of Wedgewood Blue as stated on the Heritage Certificate, not realising its significance at the time. It was only after showing the car that he realised the dashboard was totally different to any other Triumph he'd seen and started to research its origins.
We've been told the car will run with a battery; however one of the carburettors is leaking and the brakes and hydraulic systems will need attention as the vehicle hasn't been used for some time. The odometer shows 14,005 miles and the last MoT expired in July 2007 after having been tested the previous year at 14,000 miles. As an historic vehicle though, the Triumph is now be MoT-exempt.
Paperwork includes the V5C showing four registered keepers, owner's handbooks, dealership directory, sales and service directories and Passport to Service booklet, with stamps up to 9133 miles in July 1977. There's also MoT certificates back to the 1990s, a copy of the Heritage Certificate, and a copy of the green logbook showing Standard Triumph ownership.
