This lovely red Austin Allegro is offered for sale by a club member who owns 7 other Allegros. He describes it as “a very solid example which is well known to Allegro Club International. This is a rare 1500 Special which has had all the hard work done.” It was first registered on 20th June 1975.

Although there is no maintenance history with the car, it does come with a detailed description of works completed since he bought the car in 2024, as follows:

  • Fuel tank was rotten and has been replaced with a good one.
  • Fuel sender unit has been replaced with a good one.
  • The entire braking system has been stripped down and replaced with brand new parts: brake shoes, pads, fitting kit, hydraulic hoses, and slave cylinders.
  • Master cylinder stripped, cleaned, and its seals replaced.
  • Servo has had external cleaning.
  • Front brake calipers stripped, cleaned, and all seals replaced.
  • The pistons replaced with stainless steel Bigg Red items.
  • All back-plates shot blasted and powder coated.
  • Carburettor ultrasonically cleaned & rebuilt.
  • Distributor stripped, assessed for wear and reassembled.
  • The radiator removed and flushed, as has the heater matrix.
  • Headlamps replaced with new old stock items. Side light clusters both stripped and rebuilt with LED sealed bulbs.
  • Indicator wiper stalk replaced.
  • Tie rod bushes replaced.

He advises that the suspension spheres will require re-gassing, and the front “chin strap” needs attaching.

The V5C is present. No MoT has been carried out since the above works were completed although, as a historic vehicle, it is now exempt from testing requirements.
