HOBART 2 ½ HP
LOT 679
This Hobart 2½ HP motorcycle is a fascinating and rare veteran-era machine. Whilst DVLA records and the accompanying V5 record the motorcycle as a 1904 model, available correspondence and documentation within the history file suggest it is in fact a later machine, dating from somewhere between 1916 and 1923.
The Beverley-area registration number is believed to have been issued around 1921, with the general consensus among previous researchers being that the motorcycle was manufactured between 1918 and 1920.
Whatever its precise year of manufacture, there is no disputing that this is a machine well in excess of 100 years old and a remarkable survivor from the pioneering days of motorcycling. Few vehicles built today can realistically be expected to still exist a century from now. The motorcycle is offered with a history file containing correspondence relating to its age and identity, together with invoices and a current V5 registration document
