1937 FORD ASHLEY SPECIAL
LOT 684
This Ford Ashley Special is a one-off bespoke creation rather than a kit, with its chassis basis believed to be that of a Ford Y-type registered in November 1937, although it has been substantially modified now. It features glassfibre wings and side panels, and a fabricated front and rear shroud and cockpit area. The engine is a 1966 6.6-litre Chevrolet 396 V8 (not fully run-in, having only done around 200 miles on Suffolk roads below 3500rpm) coupled to an A833 four-speed manual gearbox, with Jaguar Mk2 rear axle (on which the seals and bearings have been replaced). The front crossmember is MGB, as are the front steering rack, column and brakes; the brakes and the clutch are servo-assisted. The speedometer is a GPS type.
The vendor has owned it for four years and only finished it earlier this year after mainly building it over autumn/winter 2022/23. The car is described as running well, although the fuel gauge isn't currently working.
Documentation with the special includes the V5C, folders with photos and information on the build, and many invoices. There's also correspondence with the DVLA and HMRC plus component information.
